Cabin Creek Kennels, Jody Smith Guide Service and the Big K Guest Ranch join forces to operate new hunting opportunity
Alvin Kesterson wanted to share the beauty of the Umpqua Valley with others. His dream was realized with the Big K Guest Ranch, west of Elkton, Oregon. Today, his dream is carried on by daughter Kathie Larsen and grandson Gary Williamson.
A new pheasant, chukar and quail hunting preserve will open on the banks of the Umpqua River on August 1, 2010. The family-owned Big K Guest Ranch, well-known for family fishing vacations and corporate retreats in western Oregon will open an upland bird and waterfowl hunting operation in partnership with Cabin Creek Kennels and Jody Smith Guide Service.
The Big K Guest Ranch (www.big-k.com) owns eight miles of river frontage on the mainstem Umpqua River, west of Sutherlin and Roseburg. A destination resort, the Big K boasts luxury cabins, an expansive rustic lodge and an award-winning restaurant as well as fishing, horseback riding, deer hunting and turkey hunting on their 2500-acre property. Jody Smith (www.jodysmithguideservice.com) is one of the premier outfitters in western Oregon. Steve Waller, of Cabin Creek Kennels (www.cabincreekgundogs.com) has a nationwide reputation for breeding and training versatile upland and waterfowl dogs - Pudelpointers and Labradors.
Hunts will take place along the Umpqua River in rich, untouched goose and upland habitat. Waller and Smith will build blinds for duck and goose hunters. Smith will employ jet boats and drift boats to guide waterfowl hunters.
